Answer:
Yeah I'm pretty sure you can take batteries. I don't think its a big deal. But airport security is lame these days. They're more strict ever since 9-11. Make sure you take your batteries in a bag or carry on with you. Not so sure about suitcase.

My mom was wearing very ethnic Eritrean garb and a lot of jewelry and the security stopped her and checked her for a few minutes. I personally thought cause since, she definitely didn't look all American, and she has a dot on her forehead that a lot of women got when she was younger, but she's Christian not Muslim, they checked her. These days, airport security automatically check a lot of people that are Middle Eastern or Arabic even though my mom wasn’t.

Sorry for that whole story, just wanted to state that.

Answer:
#1, Keep batteries and equipment with you, or in carry-on baggage - not in your checked baggage!

Specifically, see http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/a…

The most up-to-date information is there and also notes a restriction effective January 1, 2008 about loose lithium batteries in checked baggage. Most, if not all, notebook computer batteries are lithium-ion type, as well as most cell phone and camera batteries.

Regular AA and AAA batteries (carbon-zinc, NiCad, and Nickel-Metal Hydride/NiMH) are not a problem in checked baggage, but they should be stored in containers or something that will ensure that the contacts aren't shorted.

In any case, I advocate using a container made for storing batteries. I purchased several excellent containers at a local “container store”. They were affordable and fit my batteries perfectly. They even provided separators so you can keep track of which are new or used.

Have a safe flight! And a wonderful trip!

This won't be a ideal answer, but usually if you go to the airport's website, they’ll tell you what you can and cannot bring. I would look it up for you, but I don't know what airport in houston you are going to, if there’s more than one, and frankly I am just too tired. I am sorry. And they always state on the news to check with your airport before flying. I'm not trying to be mean, I just had a bad day :-( Safe flying and good luck.

Answer:
Laptop batteries must be in your carry-on, not allowed in check-in luggage (because of all those explosions and fires with them). Regular batteries, no limitations.
