I tried to take some with me for spending xmas with my family in the caribbean and they didnt let me take them on the flight.

They have gunpowder in them. When you pull them, they smoke and make the bang noise? That's the gunpowder that's on the tiny papers inside. The environment in the airplane can cause the gunpowder to explode.

what's an xmas cracker? my guess is that its a cookie? if so, then they’re absolutely allowed on the plane.
if its something like a firecracker…well then that's pretty self explanitory…you can't take explosives on planes…
