So, I went to Taiwan a while back, and there was this one BEAUTIFUL place we stopped at. I remember it being in the mountains, right on the ocean. There were houses in the cliffs. It had a night market, and was apparently really famous and popular, especially for Japanese tourists (or so says the guy that took me there). The streets were all really narrow, sort of cobble-stoned, and hung with red lanterns.

I think you were in Jiufen. Here's a link to click on and look. http://wikitravel.org/en/Jiufen This village is close to Keelung. I recognized the little Island off of Keelung. I was in Jiufen last weekend it's Beautiful. I hope this helps.
