I live in the US. I’ll be going to school in Canada soon. Some of my relatives want to give me gift cards.?

Can I use gift cards I get from a US Walmart or Best Buy in Canada? How about gift cards for US cell phone companies that also have service in Canada like Verizon?

I would feel better about asking Walmart and Best Buy that question than someone who may think what the answer is in this forum.
I would ask that question on the Canadian side . . you can google them and get their Canadian phone number.

I would imagine it should work. You may have to take the card into the store here, and “buy” another card with it onto one of these, but it would probably work without doing that. Have your relatives check with the store they are purchasing it from if it will work - they should know at the store.

Whether or not you could use the gift cards will vary from company to company. From what I've heard they generally don't work.

There are no US cell phone providers in Canada so any gift cards for them will be useless.

Your ideal bet would probably be to use prepaid VISA cards.
