Do the people there all have a part in the tourism trade? A friend told me that the islands are beautiful and the people were so very friendly because they all have a hand in the tourism which is the mainstay of the islands. The tourists are their living?

Just wondered.

Answer:
It all depends on where you go in the carribean. Most of the area is dominated by touristy areas but that’s sometimes not such a bad thing, especially when traveling with kids and inexperienced young adult travelers primarily for safety reasons. Taking a cruise in the carribean is probably the ideal and safest way (though not the least pricey by any means) to experience the tropics. You might find somewhere along the way that you would like to actually visit for longer than just a port stop.

Jamaica is different than most of the touristy areas in the carribean, especially the bahamas. It is a very cool place, but many people would argue that it isn't that great. To truly enjoy Jamaica you have to come with a different state of mind, and engage in conversations with the local people. It's not really the place you want to go if all you want is a nice beach to lay out on all day, even though there are plenty of nice places for that in Jamaica. The people of Jamaica thrive on it's tourist trade and it would be nearly impossible to survive there without it. Just don't judge jamaica based on the rest of the tourity areas or the bahamas or carribean.

Yea. About 4 years ago. I was like in 5th grade and we went to many islands and countries because we were on a cruise. It was sooo much fun! The people there were different (in a good way) and they were very nice:)
