I want to take more interest in other countries and be able to picture them on the world map. My knowledge is very basic and I think I should be more aware of world affairs.

I have a small globe at home, but can anyone suggest a good beginner's book or website that’s a good introduction.

http://www.infoplease.com/countries.html

In this site you can have so many informations about all the countries from the world.

You should go step by step, Let's start with the continents; We’ve seven continents: http://cache.eb.com/eb/image?id=89959&re…

After you know the continents you can learn about the countries from Europe:

http://europa.eu/abc/european_countries/…

In this site you can see all the european countries and also their history, so you’ve to go there and click and all the countries so like this you’ll learn about them all.

After Europe you can go to Asia:

South America which all countries talk spanish and Brazil is the only one who speaks portuguese: http://www.worldatlas.com/webimage/count…

Then Australia/Oceania

Africa:

Also you should try to learn history from the beginning…

Greece and Roman History so like this you can understand what's going on in the world today, why you talk the language that you talk, more and more.

And here you can know the country and their culture:

IT's really nice from your part try to improve your knowledge.

I hope that I helped you :)

Answer:
You could mess around in flickr. People put their pics on the map, so you can click on them, on the map, then get an idea of what some of the monuments and landmarks are. It's all interactive and can be fun, that way.

Answer:
Just start with google or wikipedia, trying to find out about Asia, Europe, Africa, and Australia. And afterwards you may go deeper into those subjects by choosing website which gets you more specific information,
