I know its dark colors and boots and such, but i would appreciate some specifics. I'm traveling to Paris in March and would like to know how to dress so I don't stick out as american.

Answer:
First of all, the weather is still unpredictable in March and can be quite cold , so you’ll need a well cut coat or jacket. What distinguishes American women often is excessively bright colours, such as a crimson trouser suit paired with high heels, and girls who wear shorts, or “in your face” T shirts with logos, or sweat shirts , and those who dress down in what’s considered “sports wear”.
Otherwise there’s not a great deal of difference between “conservative” American style and what other women usually wear. Some young women do wear jeans, but they choose them well cut and neither distressed , nor faded, or adorned with fake gems or studs. French women go for easy tops, no frills or furbelows. At the moment some girls pair shortish skirts with thick tights or leggings, usually black. Plain dresses or classic skirts with a fine knit pull -over are the norm and most people despise bling or very ostentatious jewelry but use scarves with style .
The difference between foreigners and French women is often in the make-up and hairstyle. The French go for easy hairstyles but extremely well cut, and any make-up worn is very discretely applied. Only some teenagers wear tacky jewelry for “fun”.
If you’re going to explore Paris, make sure you have comfortable shoes. You have the right idea with boots for day wear, but heels are moderate. Many girls also wear ballerinas with a very slight heel .
If you go to a smart restaurant of an evening go for a plain dress, the sort that Audrey Hepburn wore in her films, with nice beads and matching earrings.
Please don’t think that all women in Paris are dressed like fashion plates, and that everyone only wears dark colours. There are so many tourists around that there is a large variety of styles and people do not go around assessing what others wear for “correct dress”. When there are excessive styles, they usually are worn by English girls who seem love extremes and stick out of the crowd visually because what they wear seems bizarre. Americans often stick out more by their approach to people than anything else, and by their manners than by their clothes, except for the men who really dress in pants and shirts that are quite different from what the ordinary Frenchman wears.
You can see some of the styles that are “in” at the moment on the following websites.

I don't know your age but those girls are young so they dress different from old people. Most older woman dress very decent. Neutral colours, trench coats, heels.
I’m guessing you are young so I'll just tell you some things.
Lots of girls wear ballet flats or bensimons sneakers.
They do wear jeans but most of the jeans you see are not all riped up and stuff.
Lots of heels everywhere.
It's really difficult to break down Parisian style because everyone is a little different.
I do hope this helped you a bit.
Enjoy your stay.

Answer:
There aren't a lot of jeans or shorts. As a general rule, people dress nicer in Paris than they do in America. A t-shirt and a pair of pants and sneakers isn't going to cut it. Most women I've seen in Paris wore dresses or skirts.

Answer:
Doesn't matter what you do, you’ll stick out as a tourist one way or the other.
