I heard that it is pricey, but very safe and friendly.
Does it have many opportunities? How about for someone looking for a career in the arts?
I would probably prefer to live in a small town than the city.
If you live(d) there or have ever traveled to Germany, what are your thoughts?
Answer:
Mmmm - your question is a bit vague and in Germany vague doesn't get you anywhere. Where are you from? That’ll make a large difference when you apply for a visa.
Berlin is culture capital, so you will be more apt to find work in arts direction. Living in Berlin is like living in a small town because it consists of villages, which over time grew together. There are also trees in every street, parks, forest, cycle tracks and very green-minded people.
In parts of rural Germany 20% of the population are unemployed and if you decide to go rural, your German must be at conversation level or you'll be a very lonely puppy:)
If you are young, I think it is best to try and study at a university in Berlin, Munich or Leipzig.Getting work as a foreigner is hard and the paperwork and taxes are scary. Generally creatives tend to get into journalism, work at galleries and as free-lance artists.
Positive side is that it is safe and when your German is good, you will find things easier. Many people travel to Germany (like myself) with a partner, who has a good, well-payed job.
I hope this answer helps! good luck with everything:)

Yes, it is save and friendly. Opportunities are available for those that dare to seek them. The ideal places are the big cities Berlin, Munich, Hamburg but even there, you will find quieter places that are almost like a small town.

If you are open minded and friendly, you will make nice experiences. It is your way to look at the world, that determines how the world responds to you.
So don't be afraid, just come over and see for yourself!
Good luck!

Umm…. if you're the kind of person who is very family oriented, i don't advocate you go to germany because you'll miss your family too much! it happened to me when i was suppose to study there for 4 months and i came home really early! anyways it is VERY safe, like in Berlin. I haven't been to the small towns though… The german people are very friendly too! at least thats what i thought. I think that they do have many opportunities in the arts, a lot more than here in the US. Germany is pricey, but not bad. Especially for you going from the US to there because of the exchange rate, it's terrible right now. You'd be losing a lot of money…
