Oh yes they do and they are so kind people. I really was a shame that even I wasn't that good in English like they were.

The younger people mostly speak at least a little English and enjoy “practicing” it with English speaking visitors. I lived in Germany for 3 years and tried to learn a tiny German but each time I tried to use it, they would answer me in English! I found the Germans to be very polite and I enjoyed my stay while I was there.

Seriously, almost everybody had it in school and most people can at least comprehend it. They might feel a tiny uncertain when they have to talk it but they’ll try.

yup. the younger people mainly do because they learn it in school. most older people know enough to help you and have a convo. i would say you could go knowing no german but i would advise learning a tiny. :D

A lot of people do, yes. Obviously it depends on where you go, you will find more English speaking people in the big cities There are some people that can't but not many really.

In old e.Germany, the older generation only learnt Russian at school. English was for capitalists.
