I would love to answer this question but I don't know if I fully grasp it with all the slang that is used. It is somewhat incoherent.
From what I'm able to decipher, you're asking why “some” people view India as mysterious, correct?
Well for starters, since we live in a westernized society we’re generally taught about western society's development in our public school system. Going into a tertiary level of education in the U.S. will probably shed more light on the Indian subcontinent. It is not very mysterious at all. It is the second most populous nation in the world, just behind China and will surpass China in population within the coming decades if current population trends continue. Their primary religion is Hinduism however, all the world's major religions are practiced there including many Hindu religion variations. There are several practicing Hindus in India that generally consider themselves born Hindu and not something that you can convert to; similar to how the Jews believe you are born Jew.
If you enter some of the major cities in India it will appear similar to many major cities in western societies, but India is still considered a developing nation so it still has widespread poverty.
Yes, snakes are found all over India but they’re not sleeping with people and terrorizing the cities there. Similar to how Australia is filled with the most deadly snakes in the entire world and yet I lived there for a half a year and didn’t see a single one!
The reason Indians look the way they do, according to most historians, is due to the fact that there were native peoples there several thousands of years ago that probably appeared similar to Australia's aborigines. Eurasian tribes from the northwest came down and began to disseminate throughout the country blending with the native peoples. This is why Indians have more “caucasian” features and still have darker skin and hair.
Yes, their practices and beliefs are different, but ultimately the development of their society, and globalization in general, are leading to a less distinct culture where the lines of populations are blurred.
Answer:
You’re right. But you know, Media all over the world show always something which is unusual, sensational and different. (Can't blame them entirely as such things sell better).
Now, Indian civilization is 5000 years old. It is full of stories, tradition and rituals. Some part of that’s still in indian society and define the lifestyle of many. This may be less then 1% of all Indian population but there are things which are amusing and get amplified.
Envision you a documentry producer, What do you think will sell more outside, a story on Indian metro night life or a slum dwellers story? A documentry of Indian industries or a temple full of rats in a small village? Shopping malls or a solitary elephant on Indian road. You got it.
India is full of extreme contrasts. And a normal visitor will only take a snap of something which is pleasing. And only those snaps go back to west causing the myths. ![]()
