Irish tattoo laws?

Author: admin

Is it true that there are no Irish tattooing laws?

(Especially about ages?)

I’ve searched the web for an answer and the only 2 sources I found said that there were no laws (1 being a general tattoo site including info about worldwide tattoos and the other site being a forum in which a member made the above comment)

Answer:
My younger brother & his friends once visited a tattoo parlour whilst inebriated and were politely informed that they don't tattoo drunks, anyone under the age of 18 even with parental permission and they’ll anticipate to see ID to prove you're 18.

I found this website for a Dublin tattoo parlour which lays out their requirements, they’ll tattoo someone who's under 18 but they want written, notarized documentation outlining what tattoo is to be done and where on the body it's to be done, the person under 18 must also be accompanied by their parent/guardian and must be able to prove they are the parent/guardian.

Perhaps there aren't specific laws but it looks like the tattoo artists have certainly drawn up a code of practice to abide by.

Answer:
The only law in Ireland regarding getting a tattoo is that you must be over 16 to get one
