Ah, lad I only wish I was lucky enough to be there first hand to be experiencing it with you. I have been buffing up on the old Irish…I know the Jumper means a sweater and I've ordered several nice handmade sweaters from Scotland via my Sis so when I come to visit I'll have nice wool sweaters to wear and can be tastefully dressed. I'm buffing up on the language so I won't make you feel like abuffoonn.

Don't know what's with all the thumbs down, no one has given a wrong answer yet…
If you get a really decent water- and wind-proof jacket that's a size too massive, it'll be much better than any kind of puffy fleecy quilted yoke that you could spend hundreds on. You can stick a couple of jumpers and thermals on under it on the cold days and strip off the layers as it gets warmer. The enemy here’s the wind and the rain, not the cold. It rarely gets below zero, and the average daytime winter temperature is about 11degrees C, but it does usually rain. If you get a large warm coat you'll be melting on those beautiful sunny winter days that we do get fairly regularly in January and February. Get something decent from Northface or Jack Wolfskin and it'll last you forever, and you'll still get use out of it during crappy summers like the one we've just had.
Ah, the art of dressing in a monoseasonal land…
