my italian bf is a chain smoker! its crazy. hes so dependent on it. all his friends smoke too. back in italy is it just like that everywhere? nearly everyone smoking and its just taken as the norm. is it his personal problem or are italians not getting educated properly back home?
Answer:
Princess Iva is right that there are a lot of smokers in general in Europe. Italy doesn't really seem to be much more or less than other places here.
It's not as bad here as it was just a few years ago when people could and would light up at the next table in a restaurant or on the trains. No smoking compartments in the trains were routinely ignored. However, Italy was one of the first countries here to ban smoking in some public places and people actually follow the law. People go outside to smoke after a meal or hop off the train at stops - it doesn't really seem to have cut down on smoking, but it's possible to avoid the smoke in confined spaces now.
Answer:
In Italy it's not really considered so bad. Like you probably hear about how bad it is all the time, but in Italy they don't get people telling them how bad it is all the time. On the other hand, they don't really binge drink over there and do they eat really well, so that evens it out, I think.
Answer:
I do not think it is a matter of “educated properly”.
