I would like to go overnight by train from Rome to Geneva or Bern (Closer to interlaken). What's the ideal option? If I book thr' TRENITALIA, do I need to change at Milan? From Milan any train at night to swiss?
Is it cheaper or an evening easyjet flight from Rome to Geneva considering I need to pay for additional transport to and from the Airports and also a Hotel charge? Any direct overnight train from Rome to Swtzlnd? I believ I need to buy a swiss rail pass for moving around in Swtzlnd. will it be valid for this train from Rome to swzlnd? Would you please advise the ideal route and compare the fares etc?

Italian train schedules are here: http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.js…
Unfortunately, there are no night trains to Geneva or any direct trains from Rome any more. The night train was a very nice option when it ran, but there are fewer and fewer night options. The closest option to a night train would be to take the high speed train leaving at 7:30 to Bologna and then change to a night train there which leaves at 10:31 pm. You'll need to get off that train at Lausanne at 3:59 am and change to a train to Geneva at 4:20 which will get you to Geneva at 5:12 am.
Other options would be to take the train from Rome to Milan and catch a train from there to Milan, but those are not night trains.

First of all I need to tell “Jenna” that before saying wrong things, she should superior google them or go on wikipedia, to easily discover that “Geneva” IS in Switzerland, while GenOva is in Italy. If you think that 518 km are “close”, well, lucky you!
By the way, stopping with the controversy…
To go from Rome to Geneva, I would sugges you to get a train just in case you don't mind being in the train for a lot of time. A flight is cheaper itself, but sleeping in a hotel and getting to the airport is expensive. I know this isn’t the ideal answer, but have you tried looking for a bus? It's direct, you can bring as many kg as you want and you can fall asleep without being anxious somebody steals stuff from you. Try to look on the internet or go in a travel bureau. They could help you superior, without making you pay that much.

Hi there,
Until December 2009, it was possible to take a night train from Geneva to Rome (and vice versa). However, this is sadly no longer the case as the lack of passengers forced the railway services to discontinue this train.
As such, I cannot give you any advice regarding overnight trains. Furthermore, there are no direct day train services between these two cities. If you wanted to travel by rail, you would first have to make a changeover in Milano, before heading on to Geneva. There are also direct services that leave from Milano and pass via Bern.
Once you arrive in Geneva, you can just take a train straight to Bern — direct trains leave each hour at one minute past (eg. 11:01, 12:01) and at the 24 minutes to (11:36, 12:36 etc.)
Finally, the Swiss Rail Pass isn’t valid in Italy. You could get a European Rail Pass (more information in the link provided below) which covers the continent, as its name implies.
Hope this helped,
JPJ
