You run about a 50/50 chance of Customs checking your luggage and if you bring in more that the allow number of items, they charge you out the wazoo. Batteries for example are subject to import fees that are absurd. The reason given is to promote local manufacturing. but check the official CR website or be ready with some extra incentives.

Five Dollars? not much to go on, but I do know one very hot item (but it cost around $10 in the US) are 2 gig Flash sticks. Cheapest one I have seen in CR goes for around $40 USD, and any computer user or guru wants them.

Anything electronic/computer hardware is a demand, considering that the cost of such items are double. Blank DVDR, CDs, Flash sticks, laser pointers, hands-off plugin for cells phones etc,
