Well, Melisa, it would be like that here, with just one s. It is recognized as a name, though is not one of the common ones. It's a valid name. I met some one or two Melisas' around here.
It's a nice name but not common here as: Natalia, Patricia, Alejandra, Verónica, María (number 1), Lucía … those are very common …
