For some time now I've been wanting to go and live in Mexico. I'm thinking Hermosillo. The idea is for a couple of months but I don't really know, I might want to stay longer. What kind of papers/documentation/ etc. would I need to find a place over there and be able to work? I'd like to just pick up and go but nothing is that easy. What do I need?
Answer:
You’ll need a driver's license and birth certificate. A passport is better, authorities are more comfortable with that. As others have stated, an FM-T is good for 6 months. After that you need an FM-3 and have to be able to prove income.
As everyone said, getting a job is pretty unrealistic unless you have some sort of high tech consulting skills. Mexico is trying to keep its people employed and so discourages foreigners from taking jobs that Mexicans can do. If you’ve a teaching background and good English skills sometimes you can get jobs teaching English but the field is crowded and special training and certification is desirable.
Short term rentals tend to be scarce except in resort or retirement areas.
Get a copy of “People's Guide to Mexico” by Carl Franz and get some ideas of what’s possible short term.

Listen to the answers you've gotten!!! It's virtually impossible to find a job, and if you do luck up and find something who will actually go through the process to get your visa you're probably not going to make enough to survive. The BEST offer I have received so far is 8500 pesos a month (around $850 USD), and I've been looking for quite a while. I thought the way to go would be to try to get a job in a hotel in a tourist spot…they pay about $5.00 a day plus tips!!!
Answer:
listen to the above 2 answers !!!!!!!!!!!!! Impossible to get your FM3 card.
Your tourist visa will be for 6 months - don’t stay past or you’ll encounter a daily fine that must be paid before leaving the country - they do not play with thier immigration laws.
retire in Mexico - live like a king.
Work in Mexico - NO !
Answer:
It will be difficult to find a job unless you’ve an FM3 visa or you’re a Mexican citizen. Mexico has strict employment laws had it would be illegal to hire a foreigner without an FM3 visa, and even then certain jobs are restricted.

Your gonna be lucky to get a job at all … let alone for a few months. You'll also probably be living in a hotel if you can't convince a landlord you'll be there for an extended time
Go for a vacation - that's easy enough
