Six of my buddies and I are traveling to Cancun in May following our semesters coming to end and I was curious as to whether or not Might would be a good time to meet up with some other college kids down there. Obviously it won’t be to the extent of a Spring Break vacation, but we figured that Cancun should have plenty of us college kids in Might. We’re hoping to hit up the clubs and bars and pretty much go all out while we’re there but I just wanted to see if anybody could let me know if Might is a good time to go to Cancun for college children. I go there a couple of times each year.
Can Cun is one giant celebration 24 - 7, each month of the year. If you and your buddies don't have a good time, it is your fault. Hotel strip on the beach is always rocking as is Playa Del Carmen about 18 miles to the south of Can Cun, or Cozumel which is on an Island just off the coast of Can Cun. You can catch a ferry to Cozumel if you wish to go there.
Just be wary of areas you shouldn't go into. The drug cartels are present in Can Cun and they employ many unsavory types that’ll slit your throat for a dollar. Don't go looking for drugs, you’ll get into more trouble than you can possibly envision. Stick to alcohol for entertainment.
Use the common sense you would use in L.A. or any other city. If it don't look right, don't go there. Stick to the tourist areas and you will be fine.
One final word of advice, as a foreigner, you don't have any rights in Mexico. If confronted by the police, state yes sir, no sir, and keep your comments to your self. You don't have a right to free speech and the Mexican Police won't tolerate back speak or name calling.
