Hi,

in April I got a job offer from a New Zealand firm. And I lodged my application for a work visa through the New Zealand High Commission in Pretoria office, South Africa. I’ve been waiting from early may till this day and haven’t got a visa as yet. Its very frustrating since I thought it would be ready within the 3-4 weeks they recommend on their website.

can anyone who has been through this enlighten me on how the whole process is handled. Why does it take such a long time yet all my documents where properly handed in? How long does it really take to get a general work visa?

Hi there, yes thankfully at least one of the people who answered your question has their head screwed on properly (and i'm not meaning the first guy!)

New Zealand is a safer country than both South Africa (which i'm sure you know) and Australia - anyway you probably don't need a lecture on that as you've already made a good choice by looking to move here.

I wonder whether maybe you'd get a bit more help if you asked this question again in the general travel section or Africa and middle east section as it might be your fellow south africans who could help you out (from their own experience maybe?)

it does seem a long time, shame on the new zealand high commission! is there anyone you could email?

Well good luck, sorry its turning into such a hassle for you, it'll be worth it once you finally do arrive in New Zealand :-)

Ignore the answer above me, the guy sounds like an absolute hypocrite. He calls NZ racist and yet in his next scentence refers to the British as “poms” - hypocrisy at it's finest. Rest assured, inbreeds such as that aren't the norm in NZ.
