I’m trying to move to Spain to be with my girlfriend who has citizenship there. I’ve a TEFL cert and would like to go and teach there but being an American it requires a lot of work for a school in Spain to get me a work permit so I have the ability to stay longer than 90 days. My question is, can I go to Spain and stay for 90 days and then go to a country next door for the night and come back to Spain and stay another 90 days. I'll just keep doing this until I have the ability to find a school that’s willing to invest the time and effort to helping me with a visa. I know that technically I can only stay 90 days each 180 days but has anyone done what I want to do? how tight are they on the 90 day rule?

Does anyone know of any good school where I can teach English in the Cadiz or Jerez or Sanlucar or Sevilla area that would help me with my visa? I plan on being in Spain in the first two weeks of October.

Answer:
You can no longer enter a neighboring country and then re-enter Spain to start your 90 days over. The rule is you only stay 90 days within a 180 day period. There is a trick you can do however, if you are willing to travel a little bit more. I live in Utrera near Sevilla and this is what I had to do in order to stay with my fiance here. Since the UK has different time restrictions on staying in the country, first fly to London. Legally you can stay in the UK for 6 months, I believe. You can then fly to Gibraltar on the southern tip of Spain. It is governed by the UK. You can then drive into Spain. They will only glance (not stamp) your passport. That should give you plenty of time to complete your work visa stipulations.

Good luck and have fun to the person who asked this question and anyone else thinking of living in Spain. It is a beautiful country and has been extemely educational and rewarding. I would advocate everyone to visit, practice the language, and enjoy the culture. Report Abuse

Answer:
Well,if you girlfriend has her citizenship why not just get married…thats what I did.Its easy.

But if you want you can do what you said, just go to morocco or something since its close to where you'll be going ,get your passport stamped and you good.

Teaching should be easy here though, there are tons of schools.

Answer:
that is actually true, you could leave the country and go to it's neighbour and then come back within a day or so and be like new again.

Answer:
Be careful, I have a friend who did this and was questioned after 2x. She was put on a no entry list and couldn't go back for 5 years.

Answer:
You need to have a work visa if you want to work in Spain…check with the nearest Spanish consulate. Or you could get a job before you leave. There are a bunch of agencies.

Here´s a list for you…I don´t know anything about most of them, so you have to do your own research.

I DO know that CIEE places people in Sevilla. It´s the only one I know anything about, and I think they’re a good organization.

Any of these organizations ought to help you or insure that you’ve the visa before you leave…their reputations are stake upon it. If they can´t get it for you, I doubt they’ll place you and you won´t go.
