I'm guessing that high speed train has most bang for buck, ~3 hours each way, how much does this typically cost for the average customer, how often do trains leave.

Answer:
Search on www.renfe.es from Madrid(*) to Sevilla Santa Justa. Typical fares are 74 euros each way (with 20% discount for round trip), but I'm seeing promo fares for as low as 40 Euros for some early trips. They leave roughly every 1/2 hour in the morning and each hour later in the day.

Plane fares begin at 115 euros (www.edreams.es), but with the 1 hour flight plus airport wait time plus transportation time (the train stations are more centrally located), the 2.5 train ride seems to be the superior way to go, and cheaper. Plus the trains are more comfortable and better for the environment.

Buses look a little cheaper (about 65 euros round trip http://www.socibus.es/index.html) but take 6-8 hours to get there.
