I’m touring europe in august and after milan i want to nip into switzerland for a mug of hot chocolate in a picturesque small town like this piccy http://allwomenstalk.com/wp-content/uplo…
However ticino is not a place it seems to ba an area, anyone know the right place?

My goodness…! The picture you are mentioning in your original question IS in the canton of Ticino! It's easy to recognize for a Swiss because of its Italian styled clock tower (Italian architects had a great influence onto the Southern Swiss style of building houses). So you actually simply want to see beautiful scenery. The Ticiono is full of it! Just miss out towns like Lugano, Bellinzona or Locarno - all the small valleyes around these towns are virtually overloaded with beauty. It would make no sense to advocate anything because there would always be someone who had a superior idea. Come and see! Enjoy!

This picture clearly isn't from anywhere in ticino. It looks more like somewhere in the mountains. Ticino however looks more like this:

And I have to disappoint you: In Switzerland they make hot chocolate just like anywhere else with this powdery stuff. There might be some more exquisite places but I don't know any in ticino (which doesn't mean there aren't any). I know there’s a chocolate factory (the Alprose factory) in Lugano you can visit. Maybe there you'll get one? But Lugano isn't a nice tiny village… more a town really, but still beautiful.

a great mug of hot chocolate :)))
ok, you're probably looking for a picturesque village rather than for a mug of hot chocolate but you would be happy if this would be available combined - isn't it?
what i can advocate is the village Origlio 3.5 miles above of Lugano but i don't know how the hot chocolate is there
this is how it looks

here's a map of this region. from Lugano it's straight direction north
http://map.search.ch/lugano (for the best view selected the 3km scale)
another substitute would be Cadro (on the map it's just on the right of Origlio)

If you are a chocolate gourmet, you don't want to drink that ordinary powder stuff.
