I’m looking forward to a few days break in the near future and can’t decide if to go for a city hotel with a show, or theatre etc. Or take a few days resting in the country with peaceful walks and tranquility. I like the idea of some culture and shopping, but also feel I would like to rest and unwind. I’ll be alone on this occasion. Help me select.

I would definately suggest the country. I've done both kind of breaks and the county escape definately leaves me feeling more relaxed. The reasons for country (according to me) are:
> There are less people - trust me, this makes for a stress free holiday. No queues, no pushing, no shoving, no shouting, etc.
> The air is superior. Sounds like a myth right? No, it really is better. It feels cleaner, my skin looks superior and my breathing always improves* (*I'm asthmatic)
> There’s also culture in the country. You’ve manor houses, castles, museums, country houses, etc. If you’re desperate for a theatre trip or something similar, look for a country retreat that has easy access to a city where you can grab a show or something.
> It often works out cheaper. You can get for the same money as a standard London hotel, a very decent and upmarket hotel in the country. And to add, they’re often more massive.
I think that is all my reasons, but no doubt, as soon as I press click, hundreds more will come to me. Hope this helps.

Go to Milan- the sales are on. The ideal designer shops are on via Monte Napoleone. There’s also a fabulous end of line/outlet shop on the no 60 bus route called Salvagente. Stay at the Andreola near the central station to be in walking/metro distance of everything for around 60 euro per night. There are loads of fab cafes where you can just sit and watch the world go by.
