So, say the London Eye breaks down and you're stuck up there. Are there any kind of emergency exits? Staircases? What would they do? I've just got an extremely paranoid sister, and she's going to need to know this kind of thing before she'll ever go on it :). I just need specifics for her, not general ferris-wheel stuff. Thanks!

Answer:
They’ve their own generators so a power cut wouldn't be an issue.

They could keep rolling it and people would get off in the exact same way they get on, through the doors and walking on to the platform.

When they told us about the training we'd go through for emergency evacuation procedures the whole evacuation was done at ground level. There’s no massive ladder up to the top of lift/elevator. If the wheel is broken why wouldn't a lift be and if the Fire Brigade don't have ladders that tall why would one that’s concealed from sight big enough to climb up the side of the eye work?

Also the bubble to bubble ladder thing is ridiculous. If you were at the top the wind would be too much for any member of the public to climb out and climb a ladder. It's more unsafe than just waiting for the wheel to be rolled around to ground level.

If your sister is that paranoid don't make her go on it. If she wants to go on it then just tell her to get a grip. The likelihood of it needing to be evacuated is so minimal anyway and if it did it'd be no different to what would have happened had the wheel done its normal revolution.

Answer:
For something like that I'd imagine it'd run off a crank if electricity would break down. So an employee would just get a handcrank out (or get a portable electrical pump of sorts to run the crank for them) and they would twist the crank until the wheel delivers each basket to the bottom, and unload passangers, then repeat for all the baskets.

Tell her there's nothing to worry about. If you did get “stuck” on there, the only thing that would happen would be you would be up there for an extra hour or so. Nothing huge.

Then while you're at the very top, remind her the only thing she really has to worry about is an earthquake at that point ;)

It's a great ride though :)

you can't you'll left there to die !! MWAHAHAHHAHAAAAAA !! :P

JK .. there’s a ladder that connects each umm.. bubble or whatever that room thing is called to the center of the whole thing .. then there's either a stare case or an elevator that’ll take you back to earth ..

Answer:
Don't worry, there are parachutes under all the seats.
