Please give me some recommendations as how not to offend people. I understand that some people don't like Americans and I want to have a nice time with no drama. Serious replies only please.

Well, there's not too much to worry about, since you are visiting another English-speaking country, and the people there are quite used to tourists (obviously :D) Even though, you can be aware of a couple things:
* When you arrive especially in the underground/trains, dress a tiny conservatively (meaning, don't go in bright yellow polka-dot sweats and some crazy top :P), cuz people then try to avoid you, and it's not pretty.
* This one kinda depends, but usually happens mostly in the London underground/subway: i know this sounds weird, but don't smile and say hi to random people in the subway and sometimes even overground trains.
* Make sure that when you are traveling around England (and once again, I mention the underground and/or overground trains- a lot happens there xD) you’re always ready with your ticket out and stuff to put it in the tiny slot-ticket thingys, because if you're in rush hour, there's gonna be a whole bunch of business people going through the underground station really fast, and you have to keep up, otherwise you'll be jammed and some people can get annoyed lol.
* It is really good to be curious and interested at the things that are different in Britain, like the street signs and etc, but if you do become fascinated with that kind of stuff like their parking meters or currency, don't display it to the world
* Be discreet about your plans; don't blare them out to the world while planning where to go with a friend or something. I mean, this applies anywhere you travel, but it's good to know.
* This probably won't apply to you at all since you aren't going to Scotland, but let me tell you: the English and Scottish hate each other. (I know, they're still both part of one country, it's quite funny :P) The Scottish even have their own paper money, which England generally does not accept. So if you hear any English conversations about Scottish people or vice-versa, don't take sides, otherwise it can get nasty. xD. (Although there's no harm in saying that you would like to visit Scotland someday, if you want to :D)
*This is also obvious, but don't act like a generally obnoxious tourist. (like for ex: don't try to imitate an English accent in public unless requested, because someone will hear you and be offended)
* And one more thing- LOL do NOT state “i'm going to wear my purple pants today” xD because over there, “pants” means “underwear.” xD Instead, say trousers. I swear, I said this and my cousin burst with laughter and couldn't stop. :P.
These won't necessarily offend anyone, but they’ll definitely humiliate you. lol
Good luck and have fun in England! ![]()

If you’re visiting London then don't worry about anything. We're used to people from all over the world and the fact that you talk English is a huge bonus. We love Americans and we salute those who actually have a passport and appreciate that the world doesn't just consist of North America. Have a great time, enjoy yourself and don't worry!
The things that we tend to get slightly annoyed at is when Americans complain about things loudly (we don't have such good restaurant service as in the States) and generally just being loud. We are usually more reserved. Just be yourself and don't worry about what other people think.

Just be polite… I've never had a problem. I also didn't state “What? I can't understand you!” or “You speak funny English” I also didn't wear pastel shirts with a fanny pack or an American-flag t-shirt… seriously, I feel humiliated for this country when I see those people but I guess those are their vacation clothes? I think you get the point.
On the Underground (if you're in London), don't expect everyone to help you out if you’ve a question… they're busy too… it's a massive city and nothing personal. Be observant and try to figure things out on your own or do what others do in some situations. Maybe people get the idea people don't like Americans because some are rude and have an attitude. Oh… and don't expect anyone to yield to you in the road if you decide to cross without waiting for the signal.
In any country or region you visit, there will be some people who don't like tourists or had a bad experience with one American and label all of them that way. Most people, if you are polite/sincere, will be more than happy to help you out. The English are great people and you'll enjoy your trip. Don't worry about it but appreciate that you're not in America.
