Fredericksburg VA-??where/what do you catch to get to the National Zoo in Washington? I'm sure you’ve to switch to the metro somewhere..correct..never been on the metro..how do you know where to get off and where to get back on..someone stated if you get on the metro and you go 1 stop past the normal zoo exit..the walk is much easier..anyone know about that..where?

Answer:
If you're coming from Fredericksburg, Virginia and want to take the train, you'll have to come to DC on a weekday. VRE trains (Virginia Railway Express) run to any number of Metro Stations (Franconia-Springfield, Alexandria King Street, Crystal City, L'Enfant Plaza, or Union Station). It really just depends on how far you want VRE to take you into the city.

In any event, just get to Metro's Red Line (if you take VRE all the way to Union Station, you can get on the Red Line right there) and take the Metro to the Woodley Park-Adams Morgan-National Zoo stop. You can also get off at the next station, Cleveland Park, and walk south to the zoo. However, if you're worried about an easier walk, be prepared: the zoo is large, hilly, and you will be walking a lot.

Answer:
You would take the train to Union Station and then switch to Metro. Take the Red Line toward Shady Grove.

You are right about getting off one stop past the Zoo stop, as Connecticut Avenue runs along a hill and then you are going downhill to the zoo. When you come out of the zoo onto Connecticut Ave make a left and go downhill to the regular Zoo stop.
